Fresh berries and flowers were purchased the morning of the event from a local farmer at the Farmers Market.

The event had very limited waste. Paper, cans and bottle waste was recycled. Food waste was collected for back yard compost bin.

The event did use mailed invitations but RSVPs were collected electronically or by phone.

The decorations purchased were baby toys or baby supplies such as: the center piece was a baby toy wearing really baby sunglasses and the napkins were bright colored wash clothes that were washed and given to the new mom.

The event used reusable china.

The event was held in a home. The home has converted all lighting to compact fluorescent.

The temperature of the home was dropped prior to the event.

Results
What has been your biggest success in terms of green initiatives at your event?: 

The biggest success was in the use of decorations and centerpieces that could be used by the new mom and baby instead of one time use items. Waste reduction was achieved by using reusable dishes and linens. Food waste was collected for back yard compost bin. Local food and flowers were incorporated into the menu.

What has been your biggest challenge in terms of green initiatives at your event?: 

The biggest challenge was finding more local food in April as the selection was very limited.

How were the green initiatives received by event attendees and/or vendors?: 

Very well. Many thought the concepts were easy to adopt and clever.

Will you plan to implement green initiatives again?: 

Yes - very easy to implement these concepts in future showers and parties.
