Green Gatherings

About Green Gatherings

GreenGatherings is a guide that helps events of all sizes learn why going green matters and what works for them.   Resources including planning guides, tips, case studies, helpful links, and more are provided to help event planners get started with going green.

History and Partners

GreenGatherings started in early 2008 as the region began preparations for the 2008 Republican National Convention.  The project's original partners included Ramsey County, Hennepin County, City of Saint Paul, City of Minneapolis, City of Bloomington, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, and Environmental Protection Agency, Region 5.

While the Convention was the catalyst for the project, the project partners recognized the need for creating resources and partnerships that would serve the region and state into the future to help guide events of all sizes toward becoming more environmentally responsible.

In 2010, GreenGatherings welcomed the Solid Waste Management Coordinating Board into the partnership.  The GreenGatherings partners continue to expand the project and its vision for the future.

Mission

The mission of the GreenGatherings initiative is:

  • To build a lasting environmental legacy;
  • To protect the region's natural resources;
  • To educate citizens and visitors about green choices and their impact on the environment;
  • To provide tools and information to allow all gatherings, large and small, to become green; and
  • To demonstrate the economic and community benefits of greening.
